In this blog post, we’ll take a closer look at some of the ways you can enjoy the celebrations and make it a memorable experience when you’re staying in one of our serviced apartments.
Visit a Museum Exhibition
Many museums in London have special exhibitions and displays related to the coronation. You can see the Crown Jewels at the Tower of London, explore the history of the royal family at Buckingham Palace, or learn about the coronation traditions at the Museum of London. The British Museum – only a 15-minute walk from our Sterling House apartments – is also hosting an exhibition titled “The Coronation of King Charles III”, which explores the history and traditions of coronations in Britain. Similarly, the National Portrait Gallery holds a great collection of portraits from royal coronations throughout the years, as well as a series of portraits of a young Prince Charles with the late Queen Elizabeth II and other members of the royal family.
Attend a Family-Friendly Coronation Event
There are many family-friendly events and activities happening around London, ideal for business and leisure travellers staying with us. You can check out the Coronation Garden Party in Mayfair or other scheduled events in Guildford, Wimbledon and Ilford. With street parties, local market popups and live performances across London, there’s something for everyone.
If you’re looking for some outdoor fun, Kew Gardens is only minutes away from our Richmond serviced apartments, while The Royal Parks are also hosting events in various locations, including Hyde Park and Green Park, with live music, food stalls and family activities.
Watch the Coronation on TV or Online
If you’re interested in watching the event but prefer to stay home, you’re in luck! The ceremony will be shown on TV and online, with several documentaries scheduled for this bank holiday weekend. Plus, our apartments come with a TV and unlimited Wi-Fi, so you can easily access royalty-related content on Netflix and other streaming services from the comfort of our couch. And as our apartments boast spacious, fully equipped kitchens, you may even want to throw a themed viewing party with your friends and family, complete with decorations and traditional British snacks!
Enjoy the Fireworks Display
The coronation celebrations will culminate with a fireworks display over the River Thames on the evening of May 6th. This is a great way to end the day and enjoy the festive atmosphere with locals in your area. You can watch the fireworks from various locations along the river, such as the South Bank, Tower Bridge (a three-minute stroll from our River House apartments), and Greenwich.
